'Huge' Red-Bellied Black Snakes Fight Over Possible Female at Sunshine Coast Home
A snake catcher in Queensland was called to break up a pair of “massive” male red-bellied snakes found fighting in the yard of a Sunshine Coast home on September 16.
Footage posted to Facebook shows Stuart McKenzie from Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 approaching the sparring snakes, which he said were fighting over a possible female nearby.
McKenzie said in a Facebook post that it was “one of the coolest jobs” he had ever been on, and it was only the second time he had ever witnessed red-bellies fighting.
“When I arrived at the home in Woombye I was lucky enough to witness the two big male Red Belly’s fighting it out in the yard,” McKenzie wrote on Facebook.
According to McKenzie, the snakes “soon realised that a snake catcher had arrived and decided to split apart.”
“I was able to tail and bag the first one and then second one shortly afterwards. I certainly wont forget this callout,” he said in the same post. Credit: Stuart McKenzie via Storyful
