Fire Whirl Spins as California's Tamarack Fire Spreads to Nevada

Firefighters worked to contain the Tamarack Fire in California as the blaze grew to 58,417 acres (about 91 square miles) on July 23, with the fire having crossed state lines into Nevada, according to officials.

These videos captured by Yocha Dehe Fire Department crew members, who said they were taken on July 21 in Douglas County, Nevada, show the wildfire. “In the first video, you can see a fire whirl capable of spreading fire very quickly over a large area,” wrote the fire department.

The fire was sparked by a lightning strike in the Mokelumne Wilderness in Alpine County, California, on July 4, officials said, and was 4 percent contained as of July 23 . Credit: Yocha Dehe Fire Department via Storyful
