Celebrity power couple Christopher Lee and Fann Wong are some of the biggest stars in local showbiz, but they've also had an impact on later generations of the Singapore entertainment scene. One such person is local actress Dawn Yeoh, who looks up to the two of them as mentors.

“Since childhood, she (Fann) has been my biggest idol… So all these years in the acting industry, she has given me a lot of power… I actually wish to mirror her strength, her resilience,” Yeoh, 37, told Yahoo Southeast Asia.

“Whenever I'm down, I will just have her in my mind, like ‘Okay, if Fann can do it, you can do it, Dawn. You have to be strong like her’.”

Yeoh is managed by Taiwanese artiste management agency Catwalk, the same agency that celebrity couple Lee and Wong are signed to.

Lee has even advised Yeoh on acting techniques, suggested movies that she should watch, as well as any actors in particular to look out for.

“These are little tips that has given me since I started when I was young, because my second drama was already with Christopher.”

“It's important to know that they are actually pushing me on,” said Yeoh.

Mum taught her not to remain stagnant

The actress went on a hiatus in the 2010s, but has returned to the small screens in recent years. Her latest movie, King of Hawkers, marked her feature film debut.

When asked if it was difficult for her to make her acting comeback, Yeoh replied, “I would say the struggle is real at any point in my career… You’d probably think that oh, Dawn has been acting for years, she’s probably used to, or more familiar with a lot of things, but personally, I always take things as though it's for the first time.”

This was tied to something her mum, who has been an influential figure in her life, taught her - always evolve, keep changing, seek growth, and never remain stagnant.

She added, “I actually just take most of my life struggles with grace, with determination. I will say determination is the word that really keeps me going.”
