Storm Delivers Tasty Windfall for Antelope at Denver Zoo

The results of strong storms are “often a party” for herbivores at Denver Zoo. Fallen branches can make for excellent scratching posts, the zoo said, and tasty treats, too. Here, a gerenuk, a type of antelope, chews the leaves on a fallen branch.

Footage posted to the zoo’s Facebook shows on May 22 shows one of the zoo’s gerenuks, also known as a giraffe gazelle, using branches from a fallen tree to scratch himself.

The zoo said that the tree will provide the gerenuk, named Echo, and his herd mate, Soomi, with “some well-deserved browse for the day.” Credit: Denver Zoo via Storyful
