Firefighter Crews Rescue Golden Retriever From 40-Foot Sinkhole in High Springs, Florida

Municipal and county fire crews rescued a golden retriever trapped in a 40-foot deep sinkhole in High Falls, Florida, on September 14.

Drone footage of the rescue shows a man feeding what was reported to be bacon to the dog, before carrying him up a ladder to his family.

The Alachua County Fire Rescue wrote on Facebook: “ACFR’s Technical Rescue team, High Springs Fire, and the ACFR UAS Drone team arrived on scene to find a golden retriever named Sammy trapped about 35 – 40 feet down the sinkhole. The ACFR UAS Drone provided reconnaissance and over watch while ACFR Lieutenant Brian Ferguson utilized both ladders and rope equipment to safely enter the sinkhole, earn Sammy’s trust, and remove him safely.” The dog was nervous but unhurt and was reunited with his family.
